Letters from The President

Hi,
Well, to say I’m very happy to release Now Up-to-Date & Contact version 5 would be an understatement! Version 5 is a huge step forward for the product with new features including iCal subscriptions, iCalendar and vCard support, schedule view and the new daemonized Now Server Manager. You can download your copy from http://www.nowsoftware.com/download.
While you can find the full list of new features and HOWTO section on our new website (http://www.nowsoftware.com/features), let me point out a couple of my favorites. Now Up-to-Date has always had group scheduling, but we wanted to make it even easier to use. If you’re in a group environment switch to Schedule View in Now Up-to-Date and select the names of a few other users – now click and drag in an open slot across the displayed list and you’re setting up a meeting. Or try this: go to http://www.icalshare.com and select any calendar there – for example, the events at your local Apple Store. Click the Subscribe button. If you’ve set NUDC as your default iCal reader, the calendar is automatically added AND kept up-to-date (don’t forget to use the Sets feature to select this new calendar for display).
Our new manual is also a huge step forward. We called in Take Control Books to author our new manual, and I’m pleased to announce that “Take Control of Now Up-to-Date & Contact” will be available later this summer as a free ebook download. The new manual is very easy to read and find what you’re looking for or trying to do. You’ll also be able to purchase a hardcopy direct from our online store.
And yes, version 5 runs great in Mac OS X 10.4 “Tiger.” Tiger is a huge step forward for Mac OS X. Version 5 also works great with our existing NUDC for Windows (version 4.5.2).
If you need help using or setting up the new version, please visit http://www.nowsoftware.com/support. There you’ll find our online FAQ and we keep adding to it. Or you can submit a support request (or send email to support@nowsoftware.com). All of our online support is free. We also offer paid phone support if you need expedited services.
Thank you for your continued support! As always, feel free to write to me with your comments or suggestions at askjohn@nowsoftware.com.
